Default Do you know your neighbor?

I just delivered a package from Jos A bank to my neighbor 3 houses down and had no idea who he was. It’s like 80 yards away.

I’ve been here 8 years and just realized I don’t know anyone’s name on my side of the street for 15 houses. I know 5 people by name that live in my neighborhood that’s a few hundred homes.

Lived in my house for two years now and only know the neighbor to the right of me. He’s a cop so I figured I’d go ahead and get on his good side!

Other than that, I don’t know any of them and kind of want to keep it that way??

Yep. Pretty much all of them...and was very intentional in getting to know them. Someone new moves in and first thing I do is go introduce myself. Being “neighborly” was drilled in me as a youngster.

I lived in a subdivision of about 130 houses for 3 years and only knew one family in the place, the people who lived directly across the street from me. Everybody had an acre or more, so it's not like we bumped into each other often checking the mail or anything, but definitely close enough I would've expected to get to know more people than I did. Everybody just really kept to themselves for some reason. In the 3 years I only saw my next door neighbor once, and that was right before I sold the place.

My MIL lives next door, so didn't have a choice but to know her. A few years ago due to forced annexation by the city, I went door to door and spoke with 95% of the people within a mile or more of my house getting a petition signed.

No neighbors to the North or South. East I know but never see them or talk much. All those are good. A 100 yards away to my West is Troy. An old retired oil field guy. He sits outside of the evening watching his pigeons flying in circles while screaming at his pigeon raising friends on his cell phone about everything pigeon. He can't hear jack squat!

I live on a 8 house cul-de-sac in a much larger neighborhood. I know 7 of the 8 pretty good. Once I get off my street, I recognize some faces but that's about it.

We live on a cul-de-sac also. A couple of times a year, me and the neighbor next to us will block off the entrance and have a cookout. Everyone in the neighborhood is invited, so we've got to know most of the folks.

Know most but only talk to them occasionally. The guy across the street always tries to catch me when I'm taking out the trash. He can talk your ear off. The neighbor on the southside of me never waves or anything.

We know most of our immediate neighbors (4-5 houses in either direction) and several others down the street or around the block. Our kids are always outside doing something so we see and talk to folks when they are walking by our house.

We have several older neighbors that I try to keep an eye on. My immediate neighbor to the left is an 88 year old widow. She still tries to mow her own yard despite my pleading to just let me and my son do it for her. We edge and redoing her yard after she tries to mow it.

My closest neighbor is 294 feet away to the south. I know them well as they are my inlaws.

The people to the north I know as I coached their kids but we dont associate with them.
The people to my west we know real well. He pulls my trashcan up every week. Good people with a huge heart.

My inlaws are retired and have lived there since 84 so they know everyone. I am starting to know everyone

Closest neighbor to the east is about half a mile and know them well. Second closest neighbor is just a little further to the South. I have met them and know their names but they keep to themselves. 6 years ago when I lived in a neighborhood I knew most of the folks on our block. I just like knowing who lives around me I guess.
