Check your hog meat before eating!

This article just popped up on my FB feed, and I thought it was worth posting as a precaution. It sounds like nothing we would want to eat, so be sure to check your meat.

    You are welcome in advance!

Well they already have trichinosis and that's WAY worse than any tape worm...

Another reason NOT to eat those nasty things. Like the article says, they're opportunistic eaters. They eat a lot of dead stuff at our lease, including other dead hogs, rotted dear carcasses, dead coons, skunks, you name it. Therefore, they get shot and left for the buzzards.

Ignorant question: does freezing for a length of time help?

Freezing can kill some strains of trichinosis, not sure about these tapeworms but I suspect they are more fragile.

Just make sure to cook the food to proper temp and your gtg.

Trichinosis dies at around 135 but EVERYTHING has to be at least 135 so the recommendation is to cook it to 160 to be safe.

When I kill hogs, the coyotes have to watch out for parasites. Then, they have to watch out for me.......

The world is becoming too complex when a man has to worry about checking his hog and nuisance beavers. I wish coke was still cola—and a joint was a bad place to be.

I’ve been grinding wild hogs to feed my dog raw meat instead of kibble.
                        That a bad idea?
