Truck Year Opinions

We gave the VW back with the emissions issues and need a second vehicle. I’m thinking a truck, most likely Chevy/gmc. I’m also leaning pre 1990- I want something easy to work on and fun. That said, what year and why? Asking more based on mechanical reasoning than looks. 69-72 is the best looking style GM ever made but that comes at a price premium big time.

Got a preference for square bodies. Built like tanks. My Dad has an 86 Chevy, my son and I both have 87’s.

I had a 77 and a 85. I liked the head lights of the 77 better. I would sit above the grille with both legs by the engine and work on them with ease.

Thanks guys. Keep it coming. Definitely partial to the square body chevys but would do a pre 1980 Ford. Prices seem to be all over the board. Any good way to judge value other than just looking at comparable trucks? Still working out a final budget
