I have a friend that works for Miller. He was trying to teach me and a couple of our friends how to weld.
Our first project also included learning how to use a plasma cutter.
Obviously, you can tell we're pros and both welding and using a plasma cutter...
I had so much fun that I wanted to try something that I could actually use. So, he came up with the idea of using scraps to put together a box anchor.
It worked amazingly well and didn't fall apart:

definitely take the time to clean your weld and ground area. I have also learned take the time to get your fit up right. it will save you a lot of time (and double work), and you will thank yourself when it comes time to weld!
