Do it! My son has that exact rifle in stainless....the ruger American compact all weather in 22-250. He is 8 and small for his age and very recoil sensitive. He loves it. And even with the 18" barrel I'm getting 3000 f/s with 64 gr Nosler Bonded Performance bullets. It has a 1:10 twist so it stabilizes heavier bullets just fine!
