I’ve seen a couple and to shoot them never crossed my mind. I guess the only way I would shoot one is if I saw it around my house where the grandkids play.

Yes.
It's interesting to me the difference in how people (including me) seem to feel about animals that are rare, less seen, exotic, whatever. Even among non-hunters that seem OK with deer hunting, the idea of shooting a bear or God forbid a giraffe or elephant is horrible.
I would never shoot an elephant. Not exactly sure why-- I've loved them since I was a kid? It would be a trophy-only thing and I'm a meat hunter? Their intelligence? Who knows?
I'm not much interested in shooting a tiger either, but knowing how common mountain lions are and that I would eat it, I'd have no problem shooting a Texas cat.
