I've always loved these trucks.
Mine is "the one that got away" story though.
When I was 12 or so, my grandpa bought a 49, he and i were going to build it together. One week (a couple years later) while he and i were out of town fishing, grandma was mad at him for something or another, and sold it for a few hundred bucks.
I never forgave her that. She lived nearly 20 years after that stunt.
I still want to find another, and do a classic hot rod build: Period correct paint, cool old flathead or nailhead engine, 4 speed transmission, wide white walls and chrome hubcaps.
I envy you this project, will be following along.

Another situation has popped up- hmmm.
I guess I assumed the dash could be unbolted and taken out. It's welded in on these trucks. I wanted to use the dash from old red cause in great shape and someone cut this center out on this one. After reading online it is possible but pretty major job. Think it will be easier to use the huge cutout and install a big touch screen radio/ monitor or cut and patch dash grill. Think that could be easier than doing entire dash swap after seeing all the spot welds holding these dashes in

Get a spot weld cutter.
It is a drill bit, and they can be had for a few bucks. They work like a champ.
When you go back with a new dash blank, install Nut-Serts and bolt it into place. This way it is much easier if you ever need to work on it or change in the future.

Well this project received a little boost this week - after meeting with tbher "kdenhead"
and seeing what kind of extra parts he had - he almost had an entire truck worth he was "parting" with
I went back to Kevin's today and between his son and my son we loaded up the bed (steel plate floor), front and rear fenders, two more grills, set up bucket seats, and even a motor and tranny- I have 3 complete trucks now. This one we been pulling cab from didn't come w bed anyway -
These parts have been worked on somewhat already - skimmed and primed - one grill is very solid as is - This will give us an affordable jump on this 1st truck restore.....
