You may want to rather stay in Edinburg, near the 281 corridor. McAllen has a whole lot of construction on 83 and getting in and out is a major pain. There are tons of hotels on 281 and lots of good food close by also.

I find a hard time believing a mexican buffet is that great. I have been to a handful of cafes in south Texas with lunch buffets that weren't very good.

Taco ole in mission is solid...never ate off the buffet but if you leave there hungry, you went to the wrong place.

We are staying at the holiday inn off of Closner blvd

If you can stay anywhere around the Mcallen convention center lots of hotels and lots to do for the girls and the moms Cambria hotel

It’s a good 5 hour drive for us. We are going to leave at 8, hit the ferry and drive down the beach then head south from there. We will check into the hotel and go straight to weigh in. After weigh in we eat then back to hotel.

I live in Weslaco and work in Edcouch Elsa. Most definitely stay in Mcallen. Lots of good eating. What are your preferences?

Heck man two of the best restaurants in the Valley are in Weslaco...Arturo's and Milano's Italian. I'd drive from McAllen to eat at either of those any time.

They still are...just brought another to the US because of the non-sense in mex same as El Pastor & La Fogata although those in mex may have closed not being in progresso.

We did Valentines on Saturday at Arturos & I got the tampequena which is great.

I'm pretty sure we ate at Arturos in the late 80s when I went to stay with my grandparents in Harlingen...
