Any public land hunting out here in West Texas???

I live in Midland, Tx and need some public lands to hunt! Anyone know of anyhting out this way?
Id like to hear more about this Amistad area and the San Angelo SP.
But Id also like to hear about any and all oppurtunities within 3 or 4 hours drive from here.
Please post links if you know of any.

I hunted San Angelo for 3 years. Its archery season only and unit 6 is my favorite by far.
Amistad is just awesome. Area 5 is my favorite! its archery only for the entire general season too. to find some different areas to hunt check out www.recreation.gov

If you get drawn, I zeroed for the third time in four years this year and I apply for around 10 hunts every year. I'll be really bummed if I don't get drawn for at least a few hunts next year with all the preference points I'm compiling.

I've been putting in for multiple hunt catgories for over 8 years now. I've been drawn once, for an archery deer hunt. I have 8 PP in the rifle category; I'm beginning to get PO'd. The TPWD hunts aren't such a great deal if you look at it in this context, especially if you depend on them for your hunting opportunities each year (i.e. no lease).

Only once in eight years! The only hunt I got drawn for was also a an archery hunt, it was at matador last year. If the numbers TPWD publishes are right most of the hunts I apply for have a 25% to 50% chance at being drawn, you would think I would have been drawn more than just once in the 40 different hunts I've applied over the last 4 years.
