get on ebay and find a gently used premium reel. I just picked up a Ross big game canyon 6 for under $250. Personally one of my favorite big fish reels Ross makes.

Tibor, Abel, Ross, Hatch, and Nautilus all make great reels that can handle big jacks, tarpon, kings, sharks and bull reds from the jetties and surf.

search Ebay and as long as you don't need the reel today you should be able to find what you want for a great price in the next month or two.

Last week I managed to land my first tarpon and a barracuda on the fly. I'll be looking for snook next month in Port Isabel.

Look at any of the Lamson reels. The Logic, Guru or Liquid would be very good, afforable and American made.

                            Palisades Idaho Report

Spent a day on the South Fork of the Snake in Idaho on Monday. Water was screaming and the color of chocolate milk but we managed to put 30 fish or so in the boat. It was my brother-in-law's first time to fly fish and he landed a 21" brown. All fish were on large rubber leg nymphs.

I fly fish on occasion... it's more of a thrill and more traditional to me.... I don't have a big setup or anything, I have only really fished in small ponds and in a few rivers.
