I notice the bushes are trimmed back? Is that to make you deck look bigger? No you allow animals on your deck? How many people can you get on your deck at any one time?

Looks good. I am in the same boat as you. Built decks for a living for a long time and now my wife wants one at the house and I am not looking forward to it.

          That's nice work.

We just moved into our new place and we've decided to put a covered deck on the front and a fairly wide deck out back.

I was originally going to cut cedar on my sawmill and use that, but dang its a lot of work to harvest the trees, limb the trees and dispose of the branches, then load and haul the logs in, mill the logs and let em dry to some extent... THEN go through building the deck.

I'm tired just thinking about it!

Well...................... old man.......................where's the top??!! When you're old (like me too), you need shade and if your'e sittin' out there and it's starting to rain, it takes longer to get up and get in the house! You need a top on that thing man!!

Oh, it DOES look good.......................... for an old geezer!

Nicely done. Make sure you get a good sealer/wood treatment on it so it will last a long time. Today's treated lumber doesn't compare in longevity to that of 20 years ago.
