Man, we usually don’t plant until late April, early May to make soil temps are up enough. With the weather we are having now, I think we can re-think that strategy.

Never used sun hemp, but know it overwhelms too. Very interested to see how the smaller and slower plants do. Keep us posted!

I plan to post all the planting and progress pics in my land thread. “Prairie Valley Farm”. This CoVid thing might get in the way a bit... but hopefully I can get everything in the ground on time.

Total of 4.5 acres in 3 plots... 2 acres of high diversity dove plot, 2 acres of high diversity deer plot, and 0.5 acres of aeschynomene/Alyce clover deer plot.

The deer densities are abysmally low, but there’s nothing wrong with a little overkill.

Well, had some time the last couple of weeks practicing my social distancing. Got everything planted right before the rain yesterday. Hopefully all goes well, just need to hurry up and wait.

Planted some bird seed. Gonna give it a try, let it get up then come back at the end of April and plant Soybeans in the standing mix. Just for the record, I planted the bird seed in standing clover.

Sounds good. Are you broadcasting or drilling?

Just broadcasting, usually in front of a rain.

Went ahead and terminated the plots at the dairy today. With soil temps I plan on planting early. This is this plots second planting (first full cycle), with buffalo method planting.

Checked my plots today, my clover stands are excellent. Deer arent using them much now, but my bees love it.

                          How are you terminating those?
Spray and mow, roller, crimper? Without the money for a roller/crimper and drill, I’m trying to redneck engineer a way of doing a Buffalo-ish system.

I will spray and roll these. If you wait 2-3 weeks and let it get super dead... run a drag over it and it will snap the stalk .... or just shred the dead

As long as you cover seed with thatch, it will do the intended job
