    Is this an acceptable amount of tolerance for a hinge? Probably close to a 1/16th all the way around. Of course it would have zerks and be full of grease all the time. I'd prefer it be tighter/closer but don't think I have anything on hand to make that happen. I really don't want to spend money on machining.

          I would say make sure you have a good vertical guard on it. You lose pulling power quickly out at the end, so the tighter into the tree you can get the better. A good guard will allow you to do that without putting a branch through your front window!
