Long day and even longer night. This is a tough situation for all of us. The loss of one of our firefighters and our Police Chief is a crushing blow to our little community. The evidence behind the incident makes the situation even worse!!!!
Luckily the Police Chief had a life insurance policy that will assist the needs of his family!! Our VFD are members of the SFFMA (State Firefighters and Fire Marshals Assn) which is a blessing in disguise!!! Our membership with the SFFMA provides a $10k Accidental Death policy which will provide the family everything they need to provide a memorial service for our Firefighter. Without this benefit I'm not so sure what they would have done.
They were both "off-duty" which complicates things. TxDPS crime victims team are working with both families and we are doing what we can.....
