Maybe not the best, but so easy even I can do it, I use Louisiana Hush Puppy Mix.

We at Team Fish Head have been serving these since 2008. My brother (Hushpuppy Man on TBH) brought the recipe with him that first year. And they have been a big hit every since.

        Mama Berry's Hushpuppies
        (A Bownaza tradition since 2008)

        Makes about 20-30

        Mix:

        1 cup Cornmeal

        1 Cup Flour

        2 teaspoons baking powder

        ¾ teaspoon salt

        Add and Mix:

add 1/4-1/3 cup of water or milk or beer.

        1 egg

        ¾ Cup creamed corn

        ½ cup diced onions

        ¼ cup Jalapenos (optional)

Drop into 275° oil by the heaping teaspoon and fry till golden brown.

          Texas Style Hush Puppies
          Ingredients:
          1½ c corn meal
          ½ c flour
          ⅛ tsp salt
          ½ - 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
          2 Tbsp baking powder
          ½ tsp baking soda
          ½ onion, finely chopped
          1 jalapeno, finely chopped
          1 c buttermilk
1 Tbsp bacon grease (totally optional!)
          1 egg, lightly beaten
          vegetable oil for frying

          Directions:
In a medium mixing bowl combine the dry ingredients.
Add the onion and jalapeno, buttermilk, bacon grease, and egg. Stir until completely moistened. Set aside.
Fill a large pot halfway with vegetable oil and heat to around 375°.
Using a large spoon, carefully drop large spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes, until light golden brown. Remove from the oil and keep warm on a paper towel lined cooling rack. Serve warm with Coach’s Crunchy {Cat}fish and tartar or cocktail sauce.

These are great if you want homemade. If you want to save time, the H-E-B Sweet Corn hush puppies are great.

Yes, we have hunted the forest there for many years and have fished conroe for a while, we love camping at Cagle, our grandson has been going with us over spring break for about 5 years now and loves it. Thanks for the great recipe!
