Looks good coach. Mine is soaking in water and dawn right now, I'm going to leave it for 2 weeks then take it out and whiten it.

You may not have to leave it that long, you can tell when all the grease is out because your water will stay clean for longer between changes. I would rather give it to much time than not enough and have a skull that starts to yellow a few years down the road because it wasn't fully degreased.

FWIW ...
You do not need to add anything to the water.
If you change the water, you're dumping out all the "good" stuff.
Don't add Dawn (or any degreaser) until the skull is clean.
Degrease in a separate tub.

You must add water periodically because of evaporation...

My two cents... done it before, but boiling is awesome if you do it immediately.... you don't even have to skin it, when I say immediate I mean the day you shoot it, and it smells wonderful, just like you're making stew... the meat/skin falls off the bone.... letting the head rot then boiling is dumb, done that before too,lol.

It's my understanding that bacteria is what helps break the tissue down to clean the skull. If you are changing the water out you get rid of all the good bacteria and are starting the process over.

Yes sir, that's how it works. If you must change the water only dump out about 1/2 of it, that way the bacteria is still there and doesn't have to start all over.

Hmmm... Well it worked changing the water out... I guess it would have been stinkier and faster if i wouldn't have not changed it.

Yes sir, once you disturb the water it is nasty, I took my head out then kicked the bucket over and ran, I'll go get my bucket when the smell goes away.
