Anyone ever witnessed turkeys mating in the wild?

Was at the ranch this past weekend. I woke up saturday morning to some soft purs and clucks coming from outside my window at the camphouse. So i peeked through the blinds and had a big ol tom and 5 hens right in the backyard. One of the hens was a bearded hen which i thought was cool. Well they messed around for about 20 minutes and then i was blown away at what i got to witness. So the tom actually did the dead with the bearded hen about 20 yards outside the window. Was definitely a experience to say the least as it was about 12 minutes of him stepping on her back i guess checking to make sure she was ready then about 5 seconds of the deed. Once i realized what was happening i pulled out my phone and started recording and got the last 2 minutes of the event on video. ( not sure about posting it as to whether or not it would be acceptable but if i can i would like to as it was really interesting to witness).

I wittnessed 3 toms attempting to gangbang a hen. I got up out of my hiding spot and scared them off and that poor hen was a mess.

My understanding is that the back massage from the Tom walking on her back causes her to ovulate and her eggs become ready to be fertilized. Foreplay, if you will...

Thats awesome. I have spent alot of time in the woods and this was a first for me as this place i have been on now for 4 years is the first place i have had that actually has a boat load of turkeys so i have spent the past year studying them and thought i had them pretty well figured out then i got to see this in person and thought that was awesome. Funny thing was while they were busy a tom came over from the tree line and scooped up to of the hens the original tom had with him in his group and he escorted them away so i guess he was a very opportunistic bird to swoop in and steal his ladies while he was busy.

Yep, think about it. If you only got about a good 2 months out of the year to breed...... Doubt you'd be real gentle either Try to get in as much as you could.

Every spring I will see it happen when passing a field. They are not shy.

Not turkeys but I did see a pair of red tailed hawks mating in a cottonwood tree in our backyard yesterday.
