I have fawns in my fenced good plot every year.
I couldn’t keep a coyote or hog in, but it will keep them out.
The does and fawns love the deep grass. It has trees for shade and water.

Here is a tip learned from a fellow deer breeder. This was instituted after a pack of coyotes tunneled under a predator apron (as described above) and got into the breeder pens. I am sure you can imagine the damage they can do in a pen.

Revenge was desired in a bad way. They were prepared to poison, shoot from helicopters, you name it..... It was advised to do the following and it works great.

Go to Walmart and buy about 20 of the 2”x18”x18” foam seat cushions. Just the replacement foam

Cut it into 3x3 or 3x4” squares.

Melt some good old fashion Manteca in a pot. More is better

Soak up all the Manteca with the foam squares

Put 3 or 4 squares at each crossing under the fence

Coyotes will eat the foam and then plug up

The coyotes will clean up the bait quickly and the results happen fast.

No evidence of collateral targets. Just watch your own pets if they are out.

Some of the areas in Texas with very high deer numbers also have very high coyote numbers.

40” Woven wire graduated from small to large
I put it down right on the ground and stretched It tight. one strand of barb wire along the top to keep cows out.
I debated a strand of barbed wire along the ground, but was tired of fencing and didn’t. two plots later, no crossings by critters yet, especially not pigs!

The best fence that I’ve seen for keeping varmints from going thru up in mid-fence is 4x4 square netwire. A new good tight fence will keep a lot of animals from going under the bottom wire for a while, especially hogs, a bottom strand of barbwire will make it longer, a little maintenance adds more time.

You will find the victims near water.
