asparagus recipes?

I need some. The garden is making enough for a meal every 2 days. I'm a big fan of grilling them, I just can't fire the grill up all the time. I tried sauteing them in butter and garlic the other day because everything is good sauteed in butter, except asparagus apparently. Recipes need to be carb and sugar free please. Thanks.

OBU13DAD 04-05-2017 03:20 PM

Olive Oil salt pepper in skillet

Dang...thats one of my favorite ways. Either butter and garlic or olive oil and garlic.

bbqfan5909 04-05-2017 03:22 PM

We make a sauce with butter and brown sugar (melt on stove). Wrap asparagus in bacon, cover in sauce and back for 20-30mins.

125Dad 04-05-2017 03:24 PM

Pickle it.

BlackHogDown 04-05-2017 03:39 PM

Just sautéed in a lightly oiled pan with salt/pepper. Little bit of lemon or butter before serving if you'd like.

Same here. Probably didn't put enough garlic ;)b. I sauté the garlic in the butter or olive oil first the add the asparagus. Kids even love it. :D

Quackedup 04-05-2017 03:48 PM

We saute them in butter and lemon juice.

rsquared 04-05-2017 03:50 PM

all the ways mentioned, but i also like them steamed

SwampRabbit 04-05-2017 03:58 PM

Put foil on a cookie sheet. Put asparagus on the cookie sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and put shredded parmesan cheese on top and bake in the oven until done to your likeness.

My wife just cut some up and put it in some pasta salad with rabbit... it was good. Too bad you don't like carbs.

SoggyBottomAg 04-05-2017 04:04 PM

I put asparagus in a couple gallon sized bags with olive oil, fresh minced garlic (lots), and your favorite all season. Sometimes I add a little balsamic vinaigrette. Then roll around in bag to generously coat all sides of asparagi in oil/seasoning. I either grill or do the foil on cookie sheet in oven method that SwampRabbit described.

It'll make you slap ur mama...

kck 04-05-2017 04:06 PM

Grill and throw a little bleu cheese on it...good stuff.

rbsears 04-05-2017 04:07 PM

I bet your urine is ripe!!! I like it any way except raw. Like one said before, pickle some. Keeps you from getting burned out on it and keeps well. Also makes great neighborly gifts.

Jaybo31 04-05-2017 04:10 PM

Toss in a bowl with a little olive oil, sea salt and pepper. Then bacon wrap. Usually 3 pieces wrapped is perfect. Either grill or bake

lungbuster1985 04-05-2017 04:25 PM

Gallon bag with olive oil, garlic, black pepper, and balsamic vinegar. Then grill or bake. The longer you let them marinate the better!

Steamed with holandaise sauce (the only way I like asparagus that's mushy)

Wrap the stalks in prosciutto, hit em with some olive oil and pepper and grill or bake.

We also like to batter and deep fry them, but that isn't diet friendly.

We do this just not sauteed. Butter and minced garlic in the oven for 30 - 45 minutes. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Sidro 04-05-2017 05:00 PM

Pickle it and use for swizzle stick in Bloody Mary or Bloody Maria.

Its not a case of not liking carbs, I'm fat. Already lost 20lbs just by cutting sugar and carbs since mid January.

I wasn't kidding about the urine thing. I love the stuff. Anyone else notice the smell afterward?

125Dad 04-05-2017 09:42 PM

Yes I've noticed the smell but it takes a lot

kembry 04-05-2017 10:02 PM

We put them on a baking sheet, drizzle with EVOO,salt, pepper and broil in the oven until slightly crispy. They're good!

This sounds awesome. We do this method with potatoes. Now I need to buy some asparagus.

boomer453 04-06-2017 10:44 AM

steam them till done then set them aside, drain the water out of the pan and then put butter, garlic, capers and a little heavy cream and salt/pepper to make a sauce to pour over the asparagus.

even my kids will eat it.

TxBerly 04-11-2017 09:30 PM

Agree with some of the other posts. We love ours oven roasted. Spray with olive oil, throw some minced garlic and kosher salt on top and roast for about 15-20 mins at 425, turning halfway through. Love grilling them the same way, but firing up the grill isn't always practical, especially for a quick dinner.

txpitdog 04-11-2017 10:16 PM

Wrap in bacon and grill. Eat bacon and throw asparagus away.

You got a pic of your asparagus in the garden? I planted some last year and not sure what they should look like.

DuckDogTrainer 04-11-2017 10:30 PM

Light olive oil and lemon pepper in the microwave till tender! Quick n easy and tastes great!

Same thing but in the oven and we use just olive oil and Tony's. They turn out great every time.

dagdog 04-11-2017 10:38 PM

Have you seen the movie "Elf"? A line in the movie when they are trying to come up with a title for a children's book goes like this;

"Let write about a tribe of Asparagus children that are self conscious about the way their pee smells."

Thats pretty dang funny right there.

I can get one, but it just looks like stalks of asparagus sticking out of the ground. They say it takes 2-3 years before they get big enough to start harvesting. I planted 2 year old crowns that I bought off of the internet last spring and most of mine are producing eatable stalks, some are still too small.

Wrapped in bacon and baked some last night. Finished them under the broiler. Easy meal.

I like that salmon and hollandaise sauce idea, might have to try that.
