Could be some black mouth cur in him. They're great hunting dogs, very intelligent and relatively easy to train.

I agree that he's showing quite a bit of cur and very little pit. I am guessing that there might be a touch of Plott in there as well. I bet he is an escapee from a hog hunter somewhere nearby.
