    50mm f/1.4 lens

Anyone use one?? I have never shot with an aperture that large before, and I am considering putting this one on my birthday wish list

Just fishing for some comments about it......

A lowlight NIFTY 50 should be a part of everyone's lens aresenal.

I have a few fast 50s.....old and new and they are very versatile in low light.

I use mine a lot for indoor low light no flash photography. I originally bought it to photograph my son's concerts where flash isn't always allowed. I have gotten some great shots with it, but I also mess up a lot of shots due to the thin DOF. Focusing can get extremely critical. Sometimes I'll take three or four different shutter speed/ aperture combinations just to make sure I've got one with the DOF I'm really after. I'm still just learning how to use it. I love the lens, though.

Speaking of learning, I got the book "Understanding Exposure." I think you were the one that recommended it. I'm only about half-way through it, but I've already learned a lot. Great book!

I have the cheap-o version (tad slower and plastic) but have had great results (maybe I don't know what I'm missing)

I love that book. It sits on my work desk and I look at it when i get some spare time. Everytime I open it, I find something new to work on.

Pssh. That is a great photo.
That is what I am trying to hash-out, almost 500 for a 50mm sounds kinda steep.... and is it worth the extra money?!

Let me know how you like it. I am leaning a lot more towards that one to save my money for another

A lot of my wide Coast Guard photos were shot with a Vivatar f/1.4 50mm lens on a Vivatar 450SLD 35mm.

Here's our LA bird (note tail) shot with the old 50 on B&W film

And an old worn out night shot, wide open with 200 asa Kodak film

I have a Fantastic Plastic f/1.8 Canon. It's a nice little lens - especially for the $50 I paid for it used.

I didn't pay nearly that much for mine. I think it was 325 or so.

                    Love it!

Court uses it alot more than I do....

                    Shallow DOF.......

Hilly, don't think you will be disappointed with it.

I don't think so either, I am heading to Vegas next weekend and I am planning on packing it... and my trusty fisheye (obviously)

I have a new in the box Canon FD 50mm 1.8 lens that was never used. It was for a Canon flim camera not digital. I would make someone a great deal.
