    UT Tyler -

Taking my daughter on a recruiting visit Monday - appreciate any feedback on the school and Tyler area in general. I’ve only been through there / stayed a night so don’t know much about it.

    Thanks,
    G.

Great school and surroundings. My youngest recently graduated from there. He spent two years at UH on scholarship then transferred to UT Tyler. Night and day difference in faculty giving a **** or not. He graduated with honors and we are both glad he transferred.

Both my wife (sum-ma *** lauda) and my youngest boy (academic scholarship) graduated from there. Great little school. Youngest finished his masters online there too. Be picky about the apt. Typical stuff. Ask around some. School should have a good idea for her.

Thank - I’m sure the hoops coaches and players will also have some good feedback. She’s a 2022 kid so she has a little time.

I went there and TJC (Tyler Junior College). Apartments closer to campus are more expensive than those a few miles down the road. Make sure to check out the off campus book store down the road for her books. They’re cheaper than on campus.

On campus it’s pretty quiet, most kids just go to class and leave. Just make sure she locks her car up wherever she parks, there’s some problems with things disappearing from vehicles if they’re unlocked. Overall I liked the professors and the campus.

UT Tyler used to have a beautiful campus, but they cut down all the trees to build more stuff.

Having gone from UT Austin to UT Tyler, I can tell you that the quality of education was very much diminished. UT Tyler is okay if you just want a degree, and it's easy to pass in case you're not the academic sort, but the quality of education is doesn't compare to what I got at UT Austin.

On the other hand, UT Tyler was a lot less stressful, and it felt like more of a community. I had a lot of the same people in different classes semester to semester, and that made it comfortable. I was able to get to know some people. It was a lot easier to get to know the teachers, too. They were more available and more approachable. Classes were smaller.

I grew up in Tyler and didn't like it. I lived on the bad side of town, and went to school in fear of getting beat up every day. As an adult, when I moved back to Tyler it wasn't as bad. I lived on the south end of town. The only thing I didn't like about Tyler was how bad the traffic had gotten. I live in Austin now, and the people in Tyler are much more friendly, more personable, and easier to befriend than the people in Austin. I still have some negative feelings about Tyler because of the bad experiences I had growing up there, but I guess if I were to try to be objective I would have to say it's not a bad town.

                Lived here my entire life.

Don’t know much about UT Tyler other than hearsay, but it’s supposed to be a good school.

Nothing to be worried of as long as she stays south of down town. Tyler itself doesn’t cater much to the college crowd, so it’s definitely not near as rowdy as other “college towns”. Traffic is stupid, but you can find a church, bank, or restaurant at every corner. She’ll be fine up this way

Good school & great Nursing program. Around UT Tyler is a little less busy & more quiet than south Tyler. All the Tyler new growth & development is going south on Broadway (69) & Old Jacksonville that heads toward Gresham & Flint. Broadway is a lot busier between Loop 49 all the way into Loop 323. I’ve got a rent house 2 blocks from UT Tyler in a nice quiet neighborhood that is on a loop around street & not a higher speed pass through street. It’s off of Old Omen Rd. I have a daughter at TJC. Good luck to her

My son graduated from there with nursing degree

Lived at home while he went to school

From what I know the neighborhood around UT is nice

TJC has gone off the tracks from some of the stories I have heard, may be another side to it but my kids are grown so I don't think about it much

Both of my boys go to school there. They both graduate in December (Education). They have really enjoyed it and have been happy with the support they have received. It is pretty low key. One son has worked in the business Dept for two years while he has gone to school there. They are both going to stay through the spring semester and start work on their Masters. If you want to know any specifics, PM me and I’ll get them to give input.

Thanks - lots of great feedback. I continue to hear that most who have attended really liked the school and experiences/people.

I work for UTT. Shoot me a PM if you’d like. From the athletics’ perspective there are changes happening due to the transition from D-III to D-II but I believe will definitely be a good thing in the future. UTT is also currently merging with UT Tyler Health Science Center which will also enhance students’ educational opportunities.
As already stated, the nursing program is top notch.

For 2022-23 theta will be full D2 and have 10 scholarships (women’s hoops) so the timing is great for my daughter. I’ll message you/curious about any feedback on the team and coaching staff which is in their second year.

                            Appreciate the feedback!

I transferred there for a year and honestly didn’t care for it.

I went cheap and stayed in an apartment away from the school. It was really hard to meet people because it seemed like everyone just went to class and then went home.
