    What to plant???

Located in north east texas about 3/4 acre plot. I put out about 700 pounds of lime, will proly be adding more depending on soil test. Whats some recommendations on seeds, also to early to plant? Weather shows some rain with the hurricanes next week.

Improve PH so nutrients can be better absorbed.

What toledo said, I did it with my front yard fertilizer wasn't helping. Did a soil test put out about 1 ton of lime for one acre yard night and day difference.

Plant oats or wheat. Way to early to plant. Wait till mid October. Otherwise heat and army worms will destroy your crop.

I am going to be getting my stuff ready pretty soon. I’ve already sprayed but it’s a little too dry to burn or plant just yet where I am.

I almost always plant wheat, clover, and turnips in my deer plots. First week of September is usually when I put my seed in.

Agreed and Elbon Rye not rye grass..Winter wheat...Lime is great if PH is low...and east tx usually means low PH...Sprinkle some arrowleaf clover ....Late sept ..But Moisture is KEY...and thats a crap shoot

                      Yes

Your “probably” ok with lime. But don’t add oil to your engine without checking the dip stick. Swinging pH the other way can be worse and harder to overcome

Cow peas spring and fall are great. Last week of September would be the absolute earliest I’d plant. Oct typically best

My land is in Ellis County and I plant Elbon Rye, Wheat, Peas, Clover, Radish and Turnips.
I'm thinking of just going with Rye, Wheat and heavy on the Peas this year. The deer didn't even touch the radishes or turnips last year when I tried them. However, some say it takes a couple of seasons for the deer to start to get on them.

I didn't think any place in Texas had soil ph low enough to need lime

There’s lots of good info in the Game Management forum. You just have to weed through the 500 age and score threads to find food plot threads.
