    Hunting Boot Recommendations

I’m looking for a quality leather lace up boot that provides great ankle & arch support, 8in. or taller, water proof, breathable, and puncture proof. They’ll need to be snake proof up to at least above the ankle. I have snake gaiters I can wear as well. I plan on using these while hunting and hiking up to 10+ miles a day.

I’m willing to pay good money for a quality pair of boots that’ll last many years.

I’m currently trying to break in a pair of Chippewa Brome 17” pull on snake boots, but they put huge blisters on the back of my heels when I wear them for an 1hr walk. To avoid blisters, I have to use a petroleum jelly and large bandages wrapped with coaches white tap to hold in place.

    Thanks,

    Chisos9716

Where are you hunting? Snake boots and 10 miles a day unfortunately don't usually go well together...

My W.C. Russell Moccasin fit that need. I had mine made years ago and they’re light as a feather.

That's what I posted before deleting it.
Didn't see where he mentioned puncture proof the first time I read it.
Do they make a "snake" boot?

Lowa Baffin Pro, or Tibet GTX
            Kennetrek Wildland Fire 10"

Serious boots for active outdoor endeavors. My son and his HotShot crews all switched to these for 10-20 mile days, and have never looked back. They have the leather, Gore-tex, kevlar threads, deep lug soles that it sounds like you want.

Jspradley- South Texas. Typically, I'll walk 4-5 miles when hunting in STX. A few times have been 12+ miles.

                Thanks. I'll check them out.

Blank, thanks for the info. I've got the Tibet GTX, and they are nice and warm. They get really hot even in 60+ degree weather. I should have mentioned non-insulated in my original post.

                  Are the Kennetrek snake proof?

These are not advertised as "snake proof", simply because they don't test for that. This entire line Of Kennetrek is super tough and the guys don't even worry about snakes. They spend 180 days a year in the Great Basin on fires, in every type of country, and run into snakes on a routine basis.

I agree with this. My Russell's are more comfortable than any other boot/shoe that I have owned.

That's the benefit of having a boot made to fit YOUR foot .
My original pair of Sheep Hunters are 23 yrs old.
Had to be rehabbed a couple times, but it doesn't get any better than Russel.

New on here and moving to Texas in the next two years. Speaking from hunting out west exclusively, any of the quality brands that FIT YOUR foot is more important than the specific brand or model. Doesn’t always have to be the most expensive. Mountaineering style boots that are super stiff like some of the Lowas, Kennetrek, etc, aren’t always best unless your are hunting steep rocky terrain. I find the US made Danners to work great on more flat / moderate terrain. If you get heel blisters it’s poor fit / style for your feet. Look up alternate boot lacing videos on YouTube. Try on as many different ones as you can.

One last thing. Spending money on a custom foot orthotics, especially if you have any issues, is worth every penny. At the very least find some superfeet or other after market insole replacement. That and quality merino wool socks and you feet will thank you.

Not an expert, everyone suggested good quality boots. I have wasted a lot of money on poorly fitting boots that were great for someone else. I could tell you I Love my Hanwag Alaskans and Danner Elk Hunters, but they could be miserable on your feet. Good luck !

Been looking at the custom Russel’s. Been wanting to try those or custom Whites as a retirement gift for myself
