Looks like I may have some time to Turkey hunt on my next 7 days off. Hoping somebody could help me out on a couple of places to try out. Probably won’t have but 3 maybe 4 days to hunt. Looking at coming straight up I-35. Would I need to go East or west of 35? Been looking at several WMA’s on their site but know nothing on any of them.

Got back yesterday. Arrived in Ok. Sat. afternoon, located a camp site and set up camp. Didn't hear a gobble that evening. Sunday morning, I didn't hear a gobble coming off roost. Covered a lot of ground and I mean a lot of ground. Found some real nice places to set up for Monday morning. Get out there at daybreak and nothing. So here it is Monday afternoon and still haven't heard a single gobble or even a track. There was a couple and their son camping just behind me about 100 yds. While talking to the guy, he said he heard all the gobbling right there at camp. Said they went after 2 different birds right there. He said I should try just sitting at camp in the morning. So, instead of packing it in, decided to stay one more night. This time, I didn't venture out to roost any birds. Decided to cook supper a little early. The couple had already left. So, sitting at camp sipping on a cold one, I finally heard my first gobble. He was waaaay off. Then, I heard a 2nd bird. I planned to sleep in, but still woke up early. So, I went up the road just a little ways to listen. Heard a gobble. Then I heard a truck pull in not far from where this bird was, so back to camp I go to make some breakfast. At 7am, I'm making breakfast and 3 birds open up and 2 of them are hammering it. I hurry up and eat and take off after 2 of them. By the time I get in proximity of where these birds are, they get the ole lock jaw. I went ahead and got set up, called a little bit and waited. Nothing. Decided to head back and pack it in. The guy over that WMA pulled up while I was packing up and got to talking to him. He said right before their youth season, it wasn't nothing to hear 30+ birds gobbling all day long.
Still had a good time getting out. I may go back before their season closes and try it one more time. Never know, they might be more vocal next time.
