    coon resitant protein feeder

    coon resistant*

Does anyone have a particular protein feeder that the coons have a hard time getting to?

I've seen some that have more of a pillar type frame with extended tubes coming off the corners, and wondered if there's less feed lost to coons on these types?

I know about the coonhoods too, but I don't really like that idea. the deer barely get in the pens as it is, they're not going to flip up a bracket with their nose to feed

I have J&N, all seasons and boss buck right now... the coons assault all of them regularly.

I have been using South Texas Hunter protein feeders for about 15 years and don’t have a coon problem, the guys that have giant ASF seem to have major problems ( can’t recall ever checking the GC pictures without a coon in or under one that’s proof enough for me)

The deer don't have to flip anything with the coon hood

I could be wrong. I thought coon hoods stayed open for deer. And then close when coons try to get to protein. I have no experience feeding protein so I don’t not know for sure

I use the small 500 lb free choice from ASF (4 chutes coming down). I put PVC on the legs. Not one picture of them getting to it because (the legs are almost vertical and the chutes slope so much there’s nothing for them to sit on or get access top). Only downside is the size /lbs but the design has been great...

I've got Boss Buck feeders, w/ Hammer Feeding System timers, and CoonHoods. The CoonHoods stay open for deer to eat. When coon pull down on them, or sit on top of them (IF they can get up there) their weight pulls the hood down and closes off the port. The deer can get the food, the coons can't. CoonHoods are genius.

How you like the hammer system? I’m thinking about getting one

It's great. Deer get acclimated to it quickly. You can make the feeding periods as long or as short as you like. It helps train the deer to feed more when you want them at the feeder, instead of at 3:00 a.m.

                    I really like it.

You'll likely need to get longer feeder legs made.

Sweet thanks for the advice. Why longer feeder legs? Just to put it more off the ground?

The Hammer mechanism is long. Without longer feeder legs it will put the feeder ports too close to the ground. I think i got mine 18" longer than the original legs. Something like that.

Haven’t had any problems with my all seasons pro evo, there’s not much for them to hang on to. Coons don’t even mess with it.

Just add Coonhood's to the protein feeder and your problem is solved. I wish I would have bought mine sooner.
