    Deal Alert - AT&T cellular

I was fed up with my current verizon plan which was way too expensive. Just pulled the trigger for the AT&T prepaid plan. offer ends 10/21/19.

unlimited talk and text PLUS 8 GB of data each month. $25/month when you pay for the year ($300). i paid $5 for a sim card and sales tax for $336 total (<~$28/month all in).

cellular has become the new cable company (heck they are all owned by the same people). just shop/switch every year to get the best deal. they rarely value their existing employees.

    here is the fine print.

    Plan Details ‒ $25 8GB Promo Plan
Offer ends 10/21/2019. Online only. Service available for 360 days upon first payment of $300. Plan renews every 30 days for 12 renewal periods. The $300 advance payment is non-refundable in whole or in part. Next service payment due at 11:59 p.m. CT on the 360th day.

Talk: Includes unlimited calling in and between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

Messaging: Includes unlimited text, picture, and video messaging within the U.S., Mexico, and Canada and from the U.S., Mexico, and Canada to over 100 countries. See countries at att.com/prepaidintltext.

Data: Includes data usage in the U.S, Mexico, and Canada with the first 8GB high speed; thereafter, data speeds reduced to max of 128Kbps for the rest of the term. See att.com/broadbandinfo for details. International data roaming may be reduced to 2G speeds. Data Add-Ons for use in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada are available for an additional charge (3GB for $20, 1GB for $10) and are good for 30 days.

    Mobile hotspot: Use is allowed.

Rollover Data®: Unused high-speed data from plan carries over for one term, expires with any plan change, and is used after plan’s high-speed data allowance and any data Add-On. Not available for use in Mexico or Canada. Restrictions apply.

Video Streaming: Stream Saver® is included on this plan. Stream Saver allows you to save data by streaming higher definition video at Standard Definition quality (about 480p) on compatible devices (unless the video provider has opted out). AT&T will activate it. You may then turn it off or back on at any time at att.com/myprepaid. Stream Saver will not recognize all video content. Ability to stream and video resolution may vary and be affected by other factors. Rest's apply. See att.com/streamsaver for details.

Sponsored Data®: Sponsored Data is included in this plan. With Sponsored Data, you can browse, stream, and enjoy content from our data sponsors on a compatible device while using the AT&T domestic wireless network without impacting your monthly data balance. Turning Sponsored Data off doesn’t prevent access to data or any content. It will result in high-speed data usage being charged against your plan data. A high-speed data balance is required to initiate a Sponsored Data session.

I assume you have to buy a phone from them or bring your own phone? I've got an old family plan with AT&T and we pay about $167 a month, including tax, for 4 lines with 20 GB and rollover, and unlimited everything else. It sounds like this would be cheaper and I'd get more data, though not shared between the 4 lines.

I am just keeping my old phone. I'm on my company's plan so just need a single line for the wife.

Your family plan doesn't sound too bad. You definitely can save some money on the four line plans.

I have been on ATT prepaid for a long time, you just have to furnish your phone. I buy used phones when I feel the need for an upgrade. If you are the type that needs the latest and greatest phone, it probably would not work for you

I used my Samsung S6 Active until about 6 months ago when the battery crapped out, it would be dead in 3-4 hours. Then I bought an unlocked Motorola Moto 6 at Costco, which is junk. HORRIBLE signal strength compared to my old Samsung. It also doesn't have WiFi calling, so it's useless in my house. I need a new phone, but not about to pay $1000 for one.

I have ATT, and looked up if my phone number could be transferred to a pre-paid plan. Doesn't appear so, but I guess I'll check in-store.
