    Looking for a mentor

My mentor announced his retirement yesterday, so I’m hoping to look for a new one. I’ve asked him to help me find a new mentor within our company, but I thought it would also be beneficial to find an external mentor.

I am looking for someone that can help me grow in multiple facets with a main focus on managing people who report to you. While that may be the most important facet I’m hoping to gain experience with, what I liked so much about my current mentor was that we could speak over anything: religion, finances, having kids, planning life, marriage, etc. I’m hoping to continue that type of relationship.

I’d be hoping to meet up once a month, although I understand that other commitments can take up time and that the frequencies could change. I should mention I live in Hurst and work off 360 and 183, just south of DFW airport.

I truly believe there is a strong community here, and there are certainly a ton of successful people. I’m hoping to learn and grow and thought this may be a good place to reach out since there would be different ideas from outside our organization.

If you’re interested, shoot me a PM. This isn't an "about me" type deal and I understand that I should be helping you in some fashion.

I have always kept smart people around me to ask questions from time to time. Amazing how many times their spin was the opposite to mine, and they were right. Good luck......

What's your profession? Are you looking for someone in the same field only?

Not necessarily. I am a supervisor with 4 direct reports. Our te consists of 35 or so folks, 24 advisors, 6 Sr advisors (including myself), our manager, director, a content specialist and an analysis. We are a part of HR shared services. I don't necessarily think I need someone with a role currently in HR.

I have a degree in Mass Comminications and am hoping to learn more about managing people. But like I said, if we could talk religion, marriage, kids, finances or anything else under the sun, that's perfect.

Happy to answer any other questions about myself someone might have.

Why can't you continue to talk to him after he retires?

I can and I will, but he has mentored me for two years. Since he is retiring, I don't want to take up as much time as he currently gives me. He is retiring for a reason, to relax and enjoy life.

Cool request. My main mentor for the last 5 years retires next April and I’m dreading it. We have very opposite backgrounds but can discuss anything. Generally similar viewpoints but his take on things really helps.

                        TTT.

Anyone have any experience as a Mason? I bet there's a really great network for personal and professional growth through that community.

Probably looking for a mentor that doesn’t want to “pass the plate” after each session.[emoji106]

A good mentor can be an invaluable asset. I’ve had a few in my career and I find myself being seeked out now by younger entrepreneurs in my community. My wife and I had a driver earlier this week that I got into a lengthy conversation with about business. He has a start up he’s trying to get going. At the end of the drive, he asked if he could contact me for advice from time to time and I agreed. I’ve made enough mistakes in my life, surely someone can learn from them.[emoji6]
