    78 K5 Blazer project

Two summers ago I bought this K5 Blazer from a guy up in East Texas. Took it home, gave it a tune-up, installed a new carb, weather striping and took it to the deer lease. Its been a fun, reliable truck. Then last October when the Llano river flooded, it unfortunately got half submerged. After replacing all the fluids, it started right up. But in the process of tearing out the carpet, I discovered the cab weather striping I had replaced must have been leaking for years. Under the carpet, I found a rusty/pitted floorboard that had been rusting from the inside out. So, I brought it home this spring and started the restoration process.

First it needed some front-end work. I installed a lift, new axles shaft ends, all axle and hub bearings, u-joints, and a new front drive shaft. It also got a new exhaust system.

I then repaired the rusted out floor plan and welded on new rocker panels.

At this point I decided it would get a face lift too and decided to weld all the original trim holes in the body panels, and a little body work to repair all the dents. I also ordered a new hood to replace the taco’d one. [IMG][/IMG]

When it was time for new paint, I opted for the US military sandstone color and converting all chrome trim to black. Since the doors were off, all the door jambs and inside doors were painted so it appears to be the stock color. I then painted the bed sidewalls. [IMG][/IMG]

After the paint work was complete, the bench seat was removed and the entire floor pan and bed was sprayed with Herculiner. [IMG][/IMG]

Here is when the project got a little scope creep. It didn’t need new seat upholstery, but dang those “orange” seats and door panels where just an eye sore. Ordered and then installed new black vinyl seat upholstery. And installed new black door panels.

Love those old blazers. We had an old army one on our lease in Ozona. There weren't many places it wouldn't go.

Cool photos, cool truck, looking forward to the rest of it. They were monsters in the mud. Did you cut those axle bolts down after that photo? They are going to hit the frame the first time it get's articulated (Ask me how I know lol).

WItoTX, no, I haven't cut those axle bolts, but will take your recommendation and knock them off this weekend.
