    Getting internet out to workshop?

I have a new workshop about 40-50 yards from the house and want to get Internet out there. We’ve got Nexlink for our provider here. Speeds not the best to begin with so I don’t won’t to degrade it anymore if possible getting it out there. What’s the best way to get it out to the shop? Thanks!

If you can get a wired connection from in the house to the outside you could bury a cat5 or 6 cable and run it to your workshop. Copper cable is good up to 300ft+

Wireless is another option but at that distance it could get a little pricy.

no doubt wired if you can do it. Grab ya some direct burial cat5e.

Search transparent bridge. Thats what I used, but direct burying a cable would give better speeds.

that would be an access point... point to point to be exact. spensive though.

hardwired would be best. access points would be second best, and wireless the least.
all that said, I'm on wireless right now on a well site and I'm parked about 40 yds from the router I set up earlier this evening.

A wired connection to a second wifi router in your shop is the best option. You could also setup a directional wifi extender. Both could be done for less than 100.

Wired connection in ground sounds like the way to go. Thanks folks.

Direct bury will be fine, but I highly suggest laying down some conduit or inner duct and pulling it through for protection.

That’s my plan. Picked up the conduit today. Spend a little more up front in hopes of not having to mess with it ever again. Going to drop in the same trench the electrician laid the electric in today. Both in their own conduit, should be good to go.

Just a thought but maybe use come good category cable like cat6a or something. At some point you’ll want to support 10g and I’d hate to rerun. Or if you want I’ll mail ya a dual LC fiber you could run that’s will support 10g. It’d be a little more complicated but you’d be future proofed.

Might want to research this...I know utilities have offset requirements between power and comm lines for access reasons, but also because the power line can cause interference with the comm in certain cases.

Yes, long runs, next to high voltage can cause issues sometimes. Probably not in this case though.
You can run cat 7 if you are worried about it, just make sure it's grounded.
Personally I would mount a Ubiquity Loco at your shop, and just shoot wirelessly to the router in your house.

You’ll be fine in the same ditch, power just gonna put some noise on the cable, unless you are trying to run a high speed server out there you will be fine. For just a laptop or wireless ap will never even notice. Just run outdoor rated cable and you won’t ever have to mess with it again.
