    Broadhead Blade Angle

I purchased some 150 grain Carbon Express Piledrivers from 3 Rivers a few weeks ago because they were on sale (and still are). I'm impressed with the build quality especially for the price. My concern is if the angle of these broadheads is too much for my setup. I'm shooting a #45@28' longbow with 30" draw length and a 525 grain arrow. Was going to chronograph this morning but the rain and lightning has delayed till this afternoon. Will my setup have enough energy for these broad heads to kill a whitetail out to 20 yards, or do I need to switch to a broad head like a Zwickey Eskimo?

If you polish up the blades to hair popping sharp I see no problem with penetration at all. I had 2 pass thrus on javelinas last year. one broad side and one facing me from front shoulder to opposite side rear hind quarter, passing through bone at the entry hole. also had a pass thru on 150ish pound sow. my bow is #52 @ 28 with an arrow weight of about the same.

I've shot through at least 8 deer and pigs with them drawing 51@ my DL. Including this on last week.

That said I did hit a huge boar in the shield plate and only got about 8" of penetration and one lung but that was on a bow about 48lbs and a snap shot on him running (already gut shot). He later died of his wounds.

I've shot a couple deer and pigs with them with a very comparable bow to yours. My bow is 50#@ my 29"DL. The piledrivers worked great on everything I've shot with them. Like stated above, If I was going after a big, shielded boar (or like critter), I would go back to a narrower head like my original GK's or Magnus Stingers that I also use.

IMHO, you cannot beat the Piledrivers! They spin perfectly straight on the arrow, and perform as intended.

Thanks for the input, wanted to make sure before buying more. Very impressed with the quality at 3 for $14.99. Seems too good to be true.

What’s the experience like sharpening these heads?

I use an electric knife sharpener, and have no problem getting them to shave hair off my arms!!!!

I have found the majority shaved out of the package and I check each one.
I use a diamond stone and a fine Arkansas stone to touch up as needed or after killing with one. However they tend to stay sharp after they pass through an animal. I've seen better steel on expensive heads but I've never seen as good steel on any inexpensive head as these have.
Cheap steel is tough to sharpen. These aren't.
Cheap steel doesn't hold an edge well.
                      These do.
I'd recommend them. Oh wait I have.

Bisch and DRT have pretty much summed up my opinion of them too.

Here is an example of the blood trail I got out of one of them. It was a pretty easy track job. LOL

Blood path my first trad buck left on a lung hit.
This pig the hit was marginal but she was still down within 300 yards and an adequate blood trail to follow.
