Thanks Arvin, I just cut, peeled it and squared it up a little to let it dry out and this happened in a couple of weeks. I give up, I don't even need a selfbow, I just like making things so thought Id try one more time. If I needed one I'd see if you'd sell me a REAL selfbow. Henry was shooting one of your bows in our group at Chester this year and I was amazed at how fast that thing shot. You make a sweet bow. Thanks again

I leave the bark on it and set it aside for a couple of months. Yaupon loses moisture real quick. The bark will shrivel up and look nothing like the smooth skin it had whe you first cut it. I just scrape it off with a pocket knife. It makes great arrows but never tried a bow.

Ronnie, get yourself an Osage stave. It’s expensive but if you think about it, that’s pretty cheap for a bow. PM me for advice. Go slow. Osage is pretty forgiving. I have some old billets I’ll give you if you want to try splicing. I did it for my first bow and it came out great. Hickory is cheaper but in our climate it takes a bunch of set. That stuff is a sponge even with a finish on it. I’m no Arvin Weaver, but my bows I make shoot good and seldom fail. Get a stave and holler at me! I’ll help you any way I can.
