Bolt Up Or Weld Up Metal Building

What does everyone prefer? I am currently pricing a metal barndo for our new farm in Atoka County OK and am torn in both directions. The soil is a sandy loam and black gumbo mix. Let me know what everyone thinks. Thanks

In my experience I prefer a weld up with 4 x 4 square tubing in the walls for support. The bolt up tapered beams are a pain in the rear to frame around. Also better make sure your drop bolts are perfect in the slab our you will be cursing. Not a problem with a weld up. Set your weldl plates in the slab then measure, cut, weld

I went weld up. Cheaper for sure. Although make sure you get a guy who is reputable on his work. More room for error on weld type.

Up there, weld. Down on the coast was cheaper for bolt up to be windstorm engineered.

The price is close either way and I've built both for over 40 years. I personally think the weld up is the strongest but if time is an issue then go with bolt up. Almost all commercial buildings are bolt up. You can customize much more with weld up. Over hanging roofs have to be welded up any way as bolt up suppliers won't do them bolt up.

Mine is welded. The guys set square tubing in the ground 4 ft and I poured the slab around them. They came back shot grade and cut off the extra.. like was said above you don't lose any space or have to box in the red iron with a weld up like you do the bolt up.

Weld up can be purchased as “components” which are Ag exempt from taxes. Bolt up kits do no qualify as Ag Exempt.

I went with a bolt up simply because I didn’t know a trusted person at the time to have one welded up or no one to recommend one.

Mine is welded. Don't know about those prairie winds though.

One advantage of weld up is that you can change things when you build it. For example, move/add doors and windows.

When I got bids the bolt ups were a little cheaper and the wind ratings were better (if that really matters not sure where you are or insurance requirements if any).

Bolt ups are a little higher on materials and cheaper on labor.
