    Limb twist

I picked up a used recurve a few weeks back. I finally got to shoot it today, and noticed the upper limb has a little twist. It has enought twist that the string doesnt lay exactly center on the backside of the limb. Im new to trad, and to be honest dont know what im doing. Should I try to adjust, or just leave it alone since it seemed to shoot well???

It didnt have a knock marker on the string so i just lined it up. I shot well, or at least my opinion of well for a new bow. I also havent ever shot a reurve before today. It is a Ben Pearson bph-52 I dont if it is a good bow, or a hunk of junk??

I probally shot it around 50 or so times today, stump shooting and target. I bent one arrow, and broke two g5 small game heads. It feels good to get back in the game

Some limb twist wont hurt the usefulness of the bow. try to twist it back and leave the bow strung after shooting. most limb twist is from not using a bow stringer.

you can use a hair drier to heat the limb and work the twist out

You can run warm to hot water over the limb and twist the opposite of the twist.

I am glad you posted this. I bought a PSE Coyote for bowfishing and noticed the upper limb has some twist. I need a set of lighter limbs anyway but until I can afford them, I thought I would check on here how to work the twist out. Now I know!

Same here with the PSE Impala 50#, top limb, slight twist. Enough that the string is just off center. Good info guys, thanks.

I have fixed a bunch with small twist. Heat it up with a hair drier or paint removeing heat gun, Make sure not to heat it too much twist the limb the opposite way about the same and let it cool. Some times you may have to do this several times before it stays. You know you have the job done when you can draw the bow and shoot or let down slow and the string goes right in the string grove where it should..

I personally think that more bow limbs get twisted because of improper storage than any thing. Don't stand one in the corner and leave it and don't put one in an aqward position and leave it..

Restless, I have three right now that all have bottom limb twist. Very bad ones. The man that owned them was a good friend. He got divorced and put all his stuff in a storage shead. Not thinking he stood them in the corner and bad bottom limb twist is the result of standing in that shead for a year and a half in HIGH heat. If you think All bow twist come from stringing them wrong. You haven't played the game long enough yet..

Take a hair dryer and put it close to it and work it back and forth for about 30 seconds stop and work the limb the opp. direction, if you need to do it more do the same thing, you will eventually get it out or come really close to getting it out. The only other choice is making a jig for your bow and a heat lamp with box and reform them, I would use the hair dryer.

                          No problem..

I agree , You can twist one by stringing wrong, I did the leg thing for years. Then I made a stringer. Now I use one that has the three sided rubber on the end. Sure does work better...

If you were around my area we could play the game together..

I have played this game long enough that I'm getting bored. I want to start makeing my own recurves and long bows. I will , just haven't yet..

I picked up an old Wing recurve a year or so ago with a twisted limb. It was a heat in the garage issue. Need to get out the hair drier and twist it back. I bought it for working on form as it's only a 30# bow. Figured I might also start someone out on it too sometime.
