    Building a Form 1 Suppressor

I'm considering submitting a form 1 for a suppressor. I'd be building a .30 Cal suppressor that would mainly be used on a 6.5 Grendel and a .223 AR-15. Is it possible to build a suppressor without a mill or lathe? I do have access to a drill press. I have heard good things about ordering supplies from Diversified Machine, but I don't know much about what I'd have to do after I get the supplies. The main thing I'm not sure about is the "clipping." If anyone can help me out with the process, that would be great.

    Thanks,
    Kanyon

Never heard of them before, but I don't see anything but tubes and mounting devices. How are you supposed to make the baffles? I know some guys just drill out freeze plugs, but I have shot through a couple suppressors like that, and I was not terribly impressed with the sound reduction.

Supposedly they make some kind of baffles, but you have to email them to buy them.

SD Tactical will cut you baffles if you show them a valid form 1 I think.

Think most guys are using lathes and milling machines. I don’t know if centerfire rifle cans will hold up to the typical threaded aluminum tubes you see on pistols.

I suppose you could use a titanium tube and slip in caps and TIG weld it together.

Personally, I don’t think it’s worth it as there are a variety of inexpensive cans for those purposes on the market. Something like an integrally suppressed 16” .300 blackout Handi rifle would be sweet though.

I've got a 9mm can I built and have two 30cal cans to build. All on titanium tubes with titanium thread adaptors. I built mine so that I can use either 1/2x28, 1/2x36 or 5/8x24 direct thread adapters. My baffles are made out of freeze plugs that I formed and then I clipped with a Dremel tool. I built the 9mm mainly to dedicate to an AR-9 pistol but also with the ability to thread on a booster and run it on a regular pistol. I've shot it side by side with my .30cal Omega with subsonic Blackout on a bolt gun. There is a difference, no doubt about it, but I'm not sure it's enough to squabble over.

Built mine from Ronin Pro components before they got shut down. Have experimented with baffle stacks from other companies in the same tube. Not using any equipment to measure performance other than my own ears but I think I have the thing pretty quiet for a .300blk AR platform. Plenty of "solvent trap" providers still selling online if you look around.

Rusty on form1suppressor.boards.net helped me a lot.

Very little development since all of these past threads. They're still heavier, louder, more breakable, and not worth the time spent. But a cool idea if you like to make your own stuff (generally speaking) and don't count your time as money.
