    Feeder pens

Has anyone ever used the hog wire fencing instead of the panels? Did it work, or are they able to bend it and get under it? I have about 400 yards to go through a very tight trail, and hauling 16ft panels is going to be a pain. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried horse fence one time. It kept them out. I had a deer get caught in it due to height and tore it down. This was in Jack County back in the 90s.

I use the mesh wire from tractor supply. Use a come-along to get wire tight especially on the bottom. Any small gaps I put logs. Never had a hog get in but I only hand corn. If using a feeder I would make it big enough to cover the feeder thrown corn. Mine are 35-40’ across.

I was thinking of just hand throwing also. I seen some fencing there this weekend that has the real small squares on the bottom just like the fencing. But in a roll.

It works I’ve seen it used.

Use lots of t-posts and stretch it tight. I’d run a strand of barbed wire on top as well. If an over-achieving bull ever figures out he can get it to collapse, you’re toast.

That is what I have in two of my areas and it works. It was there when I took the areas over and has been there a few years. You need to check it on a regular basis to make sure there are no fallen limbs on it or washouts under it. Since it is not that rigid it will flex with limbs. Mine is in a big oak flat so I check regularly due to limbs falling. I also place logs around the perimeter if it looks like a spot they may try to go under. I have gotten pics of hogs walking circles around it.

Thanks for all the advice. This will be in a open field. No cattle on the property. Just to many **** hogs. You can literally smell them 100 yrs away from the feeder. Its keeping a lot of the deer away.
