    6.5x55 and 20" barrel

Anybody shooting the 6.5x55 out of a 20.5" barrel? How is the performance? Would I be better off to hold out for a 22-24 barrel? Also, it is a 1/8 twist.

I am looking at a trade for a CZ 557 Carbine in 6.5x55

    Thanks for any advice

I have a Sako Bavarian Carbine chambered in 6.5x55. I've shot a handful of blackbucks with it and it's easily one of my favorite guns. I shoot factory Nosler ammo loaded with 140 gr. Accubonds. I keep shots within 200 yards and it's been great.

Don’t know much about that caliber, but I had a 308 CZ 557 that I loved. It’s a lot of gun for the money. Check out prices on buds

Like all of them you'll lose a bit of velocity, that's it.

You'll be down about 50-100fps. Not a killer unless your going for 600+ yard shots. Besides that amazing round handloaded can be made pretty hot

Love mine.. Perfect truck gun. I had the barrel cut down and threaded for a can if needed. I liked the shorty barrel so much I never use the can and carry the gun daily here on ranch. For what I'm using it for (which is just hunting) i'll never notice the loss in velocity.

My pistol has a 16" barrel and is running the 120 BT at 2650 which is only 150-200 behind rifle velocities. I've shot both whitetails and axis with it and didn't have any problems with expansion or knocking them down, furthest shot was 250 yards.

You have a 16" long action 6.5x55 pistol? There's something you don't see every day. Is it a T/C?

Traded for it and never shot it. Sold it and bought a Tikka in 6.5x55. Have some rounds loaded up, but haven't fired them off yet.

I had a sporterized Swedish Mauser as a kid with a Weaver K4 on it. A perfect truck gun. It was short, light and pointed easily. That was a deer killing machine with 140 gr. Speer spitzers. I don't know the velocity since we didn't chrono it, but I wish I had it back.

Found this. Same gun. Real world numbers.

The CZ 557 bolt-action rifle is a push-feed, economical sporter that doesn't cut corners in quality or accuracy
