    Bushing dies (bushing size)

I bought a set of the redding bushing dies. But how do i know what size bushing to buy? I am starting with factory nosler ammo (280 AI by APR) so can i just mic the necks in the factory loaded ammo and then subtract .284 to get the number?

I'm not new to loading but have never used bushing dies.

    Thanks

To determine proper Bushing size, measure the outside neck diameter of a loaded cartridge with a precision micrometer, then subtract .001" to .002", to allow for brass spring back and bullet tension. You'll need to turn your necks to see the full benefit of using bushing dies though.

Measure a loaded round with your bullet and brass of choice then subtract .002" from the outter diameter of the neck.

        I usually subtract .002-.003 not .284.

Here is Reddings take on how to do it.

Reloading equipment for rifles, handguns, pistols, revolvers, custom dies, bullet casting equipment, powder measuring and weighing equipment, bullet seating dies
