So then I was pleading my case.....

Yep, I was pleading my case to my wife..... and she said, well you need to go shop for a new trad bow. So the hunt is on, for a new recurve and hopefully soon will be shooting traditional bow again soon

Woohoo, green light. Better strike while the iron's hot. What's on your brain for potential bows?

Randy I'm looking at either a Samick Sage, or the PSE Honor because of funding. The Samick Spikeman shot so smoothly and well, that if I could find another I would buy it. Yesterday I looked at Cabela's and the PSE Honor 3 piece recurve they have is priced way to high at $199.99 compared to the same bow at our local archery shop at $140.00. I think you know if I buy the PSE it will be from our local shop. I have been looking at Trad Talk, Archery Talk and a few other traditional classified sites as well.

Looking at 3Rivers and trying to choose either wooden shafts or carbons pre feather fletched, what spine for the arrows and then what wt field points I want to run. I used to have the CX Heritage 250 with 5" feathers that I ran a nylon cord down the inside to bring up the arrow weight then a heavy field tip.

Oh this is going to be fun getting set up again.

I'm thinking in the draw weight of 45# range, even though I hit the gym 3 times a week for PT for the hip replacement I had. I've also been working on weights doing reps for the upper arms, back and chest muscles during this time as well.

The Sage is a good choice but I kind of stumbled onto another bow that I like better than the Sage. I bought a used Martin Panther for my wife and it is a hoot to shoot. I looked around after commiting to buy the bow and was surprised to see just how cheaply they can be purchased. If you find one of those in your search, see if you can shoot it. I have both the Martin and the Sage here along with a Martin Alder that I suspect is built by Samick. Of the three my preference is the Panther for shot quality.

For a couple hundred you can but a nice used bear or martin, I would suggest that over a new china bow

I would stay in the classifieds personally. The Hoyt Excel ILF Riser can be had for a very affordable price, last week AT had one $125. The Black Maxx Limbs can be picked up for $75-100. The ILF bows have almost endless options

There are many other options for great bows in your price range, Bear Grizzly bow would fit your ticket perfect as well. I recently traded a 50 year old Grizz that was simply an awesome bow in great shape.

Sorry, I am not a fan of either bow that you mentioned.... I would go with 35-40lbs for sure to start out with. Good Luck!!!!

My Dad always said, save your money until you can buy in Quality. I would recommend you look at some of the trad sites and spend $300-$400 on a quality used "Custom" bow. You can find many good deals on this site, as well as others. Let me know if you go this route and I will be glad to help you. I have bought and sold probably 100+ bows in the past 15 years and have some experience on this.

                  Best of luck.

I agree with this. If you already know traditional is the way you want to go save up and buy quality. If you are just testing the waters that's another story.

I've got many years behind both longbow and recurves, as I have owned many in the past. Back in 2010 I was a frequent flyer here and posted many video's for the FSC events.

                        Here is one such event:

I did see the Bear Super Kodiak at Stickbow for a great price, and am considering. Not that Samick is a bad bow, mine was not as it out shot the Bears that I had owned at the time. I was just looking to get back into the game quicker is all, and plan on a continued search.

I have actually found a Bear Super Kodiak 60" 50# @28" and it's a good price TMD, who I have contacted the seller on at Stickbow.

If you check out Traditional Archery Sales of Florida, that guy normally has some nice used bows too. I bought one from him a while back, and he's a really nice guy and super easy to deal with. You have to call him to order, but I like that anyway as opposed to ordering online or by email.
