TPWD predictor says first couple of weeks in December. I also hunt in Junction and its fairly accurate within a week.

I've read a lot of locals stating the Rut can be as late as January. I'm sure hoping the pre rut is strong the first week of Dec -
You might see a little pre rut activity starting in the 2nd or 3rd week of December down here, i.e. fresh rubs, scrapes, etc. The rubs seen now out there are from deer rubbing off velvet. I've never had much luck rattling or grunting at the refuge. I use straight doe pee for cover scent. The only time I used doe in estrous was after Christmas a few years ago on a gun hunt and within 20 minutes had a wide 8 point on the ground, which palerider helped me drag out.
Once again, I recommend patience at LA by sitting on fresh used trail intersections, funnel areas or sitting near fresh nilgai dung piles. Put yourself in a good spot and you'll probably get a shot.Comment

I hunted unit 1 for 3 years and know of 6 deer shot most doe but that was in January hunt. I haven't gotten one yet.Comment
