Nice pic. Usually they aren't that cooperative.

Just out of curiosity because I've been confused on it. A person can go buy a non resident tag and hunt public land for animals like this, right? I've been wanting to plan some trips outside the state of texas to go kill some other species and just am not sure on the best way to go about it

Following these answers... after seeing dozens of antelope while passing through corner of New Mexico last summer when driving to Colorado, I am also interested in anyone's experience with Public land hunts in NM.

Maybe this question should be posted on Around the Campfire

I don't believe there are any OTC public land antelope hunts in NM. I'm a resident and I have to put in for the draw each year in order to hunt them on public land. You can find a land owner tag and go that route. I know a friend of mine has a ranch and they sell their ranch tags for around $5k each.

How common is it to be drawn? Can out of state people apply?

The out of state draw, in Wyoming, is almost guaranteed.

This is the way to go. I did a dyi rifle hunt a few years ago and we actually found a few landowners that let us pay a "trespass" fee to hunt antelope. We did a 5 day hunt and after tags and trespass fee we spent $600 each and both got nice antelopes. It's not hard with a rifle but a bow would be a different story.

This was true a couple years ago, but even Eastern Wyoming is getting to be a close call. There were no leftover tags in the unit we hunt in last year. More and more people are hunting antelope it seems, but you can still draw lots of units with just one point. Better buy a preference point when they are available to ensure you get to hunt. They are pretty cheap for antelope.
