    Austin Peterson

A pro-life libertarian running against Gary Johnson. It will be interesting to watch to see how Peterson does in the Libertarian party. If there is acceptance of a pro-life Libertarian in that party, I suspect the ranks there will explode.

I have been impressed with him since the John Stossel Libertarian debate. He is much more intelligent and has a much better personality than Gary Johnson. Has a pragmatic plan for incremental change toward a government based on the Constitution.
Here is a good interview if you can listen to an intelligent exchange compared to the sound bites and juvenile antics of our current R/D candidates.

I recently interviewed Austin Peterson, Presidential hopeful for the Libertarian Party. See more at http://www.jasonstapleton.com

Sadly, he's probably too smart and intellectual to appeal to the masses as a candidate, I'm afraid. But if his views are widely accepted in the Libertarian Party, then I might be able to find a home there. Time will tell. I'm watching with interest.

I did that "isidewith" survey and he was one of the top guys that showed up. I looked him up and he seems very smart and genuine. I actually read an article that thinks the libertarian candidate could get close to double digits this election.

I imagine the L candidate will get more than 10% this go 'round. If conservatives end up migrating from R to L, we could end up with a fairly even 3-way split among three parties. Who knows how elections would go from there, but it would likely give conservatives more influence than they currently have as the unwanted wing of the R party.

I'm on board with Petersen as well.

I had never looked into him before, but I like what he had to say in those interviews.

Please spread the word. Too many people think "well, he can't win, so..." when this is a monumental time to just introduce people to alternatives. Not that he will win, HIGHLY unlikely, but what it can do today is to get more people to demand candidates who believe what they believe (more so) than any other candidate and get them on board with considering alternatives. I do believe that this election is critical to unwinding the D.C. establishment which I don't hear many people rooting for.

Peterson is not truly libertarian if he wants to government making choices for people.

Agreed. What I like about him is that there is no way to go directly from A to B. He understands it's going to take some compromises to get there eventually to be realistic. He has a plan.

Is pro-life no legal abortion under any circumstances?

Great question. I think the vast majority of people will answer somewhere in between those two extremes, and finding the right place to draw the line is difficult.

Personally, I would like to see a Constitutional amendment that protects the lives of the unborn by outlawing any form of abortion, but I would be OK with exceptions for rape and situations where abortion was necessary to save the life of the mother. That, in my opinion, is a true "pro-choice" position. If you choose to have sex, then that was your opportunity to choose. If you get pregnant and decide later that it is inconvenient, you don't get to kill your baby. Choices have consequences. Don't make your baby suffer the consequences instead of you.

If you are raped, you didn't get to choose. If my wife or daughter were in that situation and the pain of carrying a rapist's baby was too much to bear, I'm not going to force them to. The baby is still an innocent victim, and that is still horrible. That would be a gut-wrenching dilema to have to deal with either way.

Same gut-wrenching dilema exists if a pregnant mother's life is in danger and terminating the pregnancy is the only way to save her life. Let her and her family and doctor make that judgment call.

I have the exact same pro life stance as you do.
