I just recently bought a Ranger and decided To save some coin by doing all the fabrication work myself. I trip to the metal shop cost me about $150 for 3/4", 1", 1 1/4" square tubing, some angle, a sheet of diamond plate, miscellaneous bolts and plastic end caps. My estimation is this should be dangerously close to enough material for my top, rack and bumper.
Phase one is the top, two will be the bumper and then culminate with a rack for the back. All prioritized by need.
I got ahead of myself by welding in supports prior to bending my edges. This little mishap cost me a couple hours. You will see where some cutting and grinding took place. I am hoping the bed liner will hide it. If not, I bet the dust and dirt will.
Next up is gusset the corners, fab up the roof basket, decide whether the light bar will be on top or under the eyebrow and then apply the bedliner or paint.
