Should we the people should have the right to vote as a community if they do not want fracking within a reasonable distance of their homes? Or should the state have the right to make that determination?

in a society of we the people, the people should decide.
but we worship the almighty dollar and are pro-business in almost ever situation.

politicians on the take...
Yep. I was blown away when Texas passed the law making local fracking bans illegal. I would have thought Texas would place more value on citizen's rights.

What happens when your community votes for fracking and that's OK but the communities around you ban fracking but then you have an accident and your fracking juice gets spilled all over into other communities ruining their water supply?
Fracking has too much potential to affect other people so I can see why it would be heavily regulated (like petroleum refineries).

No not unless its on you land because it won't affect your home

^^ Not sure if serious orrrrrrr well bless your heart
Some of you need to do some serious research on fracking. Cuz you don't have a clue.
Here....
Give me 2 examples where fracking has negatively impacted your environment or someone you know.
I have done a lot of research on it and I am not sure examples of negatively impacting your environment are relevant. There are studies suggesting fracking does not cause earthquakes. There is study that says they only cause small earthquakes.
But there are also studies that show remarkable upticks in both the volume and scale of earthquakes in areas where fracking and related drilling activities have occurred. In some cases the activity was fracking but in others it water injection and disposal and stuff I won't pretend to understand.
So for the purposes of this discussion, lets lump all these activities together. In Las Colinas/Irving, where we used to live, virtually every study suggested they were linked to fracking and the number and strength of those puppies was such that we looked into earthquake insurance - which was ridiculously expensive.
That said, within individual communities, I do think they should have the right, if voted upon, to limit those activities within their communities. And that the onus should be on those drilling to prove unequivocally there is no linkage between the two - fracking and earthquakes.
By the way, even the United States Geological Society acknowledges that fracking can cause earthquakes - saying they are "usually small". If you are homeowner, how does that "usually" make you feel.
