    Golf Course Hunting

I have a friend who swears that permits can be had for hunting hogs on golf courses after hours. I just do not believe him. Any word on this? I know the city of San Antonio would not like this and I just cannot imagine the Hyatt or La Contera letting camoed men on their grounds.
Hogs are eating these places up. I think we should lobby for this. Bacon, not far from home. I bet he meant that traps were being used.
    What have you guys heard?

Actually last year someone said that he played at one of the courses up here in Grapevine and was talking with the pro staff and they found out he was a bow hunter and said that they had a major hog problem tearing up the "T" boxes. He said he would love for him and some of his friend to come out and eliminate the problem. He was suppose to call and find out somthing as well as I was but just never got around too it..

Its private property if they want you hire you as their pest control then so be it. THere is no law that I know of stating you cant discharge a bow in the city limits. Guns a different story.

So we thought about it and decided that with the use of a few golf carts and some spot lighting it would be some fun off season hunting...

But needless to say work takes prority over that lol....

There probably is a law against discharging a bow in ANY city limits. My office is in San Antonio, but my landlord asked me to kill the hogs tearing up his landscaping. We sat out for a few nights. It is so remote that we could not hit any buildings with a bow. The pigs did not give us a shot. Unfortunately, some apartments were built nearby. We did not shoot, and I asked the police that came to investigate an alarm if we could shoot a bow into a pig. He said "only if I get a ham". I did not feel comfy, but the bug exterminator said he has a "duty to rid his clients of pests". He would have had one come to the area.
Don't know. But I do think that permits will be given to rid areas of hogs. One small community is allowing bow hunting to rid the area of deer. The white tail run in packs in areas of San Antonio.
Coming home from Rockport, my son and I saw a wild hog on the road outside Sinton. God bless the car that hit that monster. It is a wonder the car wasn't laying in the ditch....
Have we any police here that could clear this up?

One of my brothers in-laws, knew of a golf course that allowed deer hunting for free you just had to ask, said you could easily tag several does. The only stipulations were you had to use a bow, and you couldn't tell others about it. He never would say where this place was, he probably still goes there, but I have reason to believe it was somewhere around the temple/killeen area.

Most cities have an ordinace against discharging a weapon inside the limits. San Antonio used to have a 10 acre limit for firearms, but I think that was lobbied away years ago.

I agree with several of the people....basically, some cities say as long as the projecticle doesn't leave your property, its okay. If you must know, check the city YOU LIVE IN and don't guess about another city.

In College Station you can not shoot bows in the city. I talk to a guy that works in landscaping near Dallas that was asking around for people that bow hunt to come and hunt hogs. I dont see why they just done use traps. Sounds like a way to make easy money because you know the people at the golf shop dont konw how to trap hogs.

I think TExas law says a shotgun/bow must be used on 10 acres or more and a rimfire or centerfire must be on 50 acres or more. I have called both the game warden and my local police and they both confirmed this. According to the way I read the law an individual city can not change the acerage requirements.

There is a ordinance that allows you to hunt in residential areas. The 10 acre rule is for firearms not archery. You have to contact your city clerk on city ordinances. The game warden only regulates state and federal game laws.

The reason cities allow archery hunting inside city limits is because the sound of gun shots scare residences..

in addition to the 10 acre rule inside city limits, you cannot hunt within something like 100 or 150 feet of buildings or houses on bordering property.
