    Arrow Help

Looking for some help with purchasing some arrows. With my compound I would typically just go to double g and buy whatever Paul suggested. With the traditional equipment it seems much more complicated.

Double g didn't have a lot of options for trad arrows.

Where do you buy your arrows?
How do you choose which way to fletch the feathers?
    Do you fletch them yourselves?
If so which jig do you recommend?
Are there any other questions I should be asking?

I searched the forum and found some answers but still need some guidance.

I use the 3rivers archery arrow chart to put me in the right ball park of spine I need then I make em. But once you figure your spine you can just order from them or whoever sells what you want cheapest. I shoot both left and right wing but now am switching to all left wing since my broadheads are left bevel. I fletch my own(I build the arrow completely from log and turkey wing to arrow) with a Martin J8 fletching jig and some fletching tape. The jig leaves some to be desired but the tape is amazing and fast. The big question is how much work do you want to put into your arrows?

      1. I either buy a half dozen arrows at Academy or Walmart and strip off the vanes and refletch, or order shafts from FS Discount.

      2. I'm not sure what your second question is.

      3. Yes

      4. I have an old Martin jig that works fine, but I am sure there are better ones out there.

      5. Glues, cut length, spine, and shaft material.

        1. I buy my Gold Tip shafts from Paul at GG. You can buy arrows from 3Rivers, Lancaster, Big Jim's Bow Co. You can call Big Jim's Bow Co and Jim will recommend an arrow for you to use if you are uncertain what to get.

        2. Right or left helical is personal preference, unless you are using single bevel broadheads. In that case the helical of the feathers needs to match the bevel of the broadhead.

        3. I fletch my own arrows because I want them a certain color scheme. Again, it does not matter if you do it yourself, or if you buy them already fletched.

        4. I use a JoJan Multifletcher. I have two of them and can fletch a dozen arrows in just over an hour.

        5. If you decide to build your own arrows, you will need glue (Fletchtite Platinum for feathers on carbon arrows, Duco Cement for fletching on wood shafts, and Big Jim's Quick Stick hot melt for inserts)

P.S. - I worked like a dog trying to save your arrow in the back wall at the shop. That thing is in there for good!

I buy my materials from several different places.
Feather direction is a personal preference, most of mine is left helical.
I do fletch my own and have recently started building my own from bare wood shafts.
I have a JoJan and Bitzenburgers.

Feel free to PM if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the all the information. That helps a bunch. I don't mind fletching my own and would like to try that but I don't think making them from scratch is for me right now. TradDoc sold me some arrows on the cheap last week so I'm good for a while. I don't remember who said it but I saw it on here. Arrows are consumables so don't worry about losing them. That makes sense now I just want to know how to best replace them.

I appreciate you trying to save that arrow. It was buried deep and we couldn't budge it. I was hoping to try to get down to double g to shoot again this week but I'm not sure I'm going to have the time.

Well, everything has pretty much been covered already. If you want to try fletching them yourself, I have a jig you can borrow, or will fletch them for you.

Texasrig, I just started shooting carbon shafts that I buy from Cabella's. The are branded Cabella's Stalker Extreme and are about $70/doz for shafts. Made by Beman. I am shooting 50#@28" and I use the 55-70# spine arrows (400 spine)full length and they fly like a dart with 125 field points or broadheads and they are cheap. If you wanted to add weight up front, you would have plenty to cut down to get your spine adjusted for the heavier points. Did I mention they are Cheap.
