    Shooting sticks repair

I have a pair of Shooters Ridge Steady Sticks that broke on me at the lease a few weeks ago. The two sticks were only held together with a 1/2" thick rubber piece. That piece ripped in half and tore a chuck out of the other side of the top of the stick.

Being a cheapskate, I planned on building a Bi-Fur-Pod like on Varmint Al's site. But I looked at the tubing and it appeared thick enough to drill. So I grabbed a bit and set to drilling. I also had a 2" machine screw and some random washers laying around. So the only thing I needed was a spacer. I was going to Home Depot anyway and picked up a 1/2" aluminum spacer and a wing nut so I could adjust the tension. I put it together and voila!!, it works great. Total cost $1.63. I should probably hit it with some black spray paint, but it's generally covered with my hand while I'm shooting.

Here's a pic of the finished product. That nut and washer combo is a lot stronger and stable than that crappy rubber piece. I'll probably still build me a Bi-Fur-Pod to keep in the truck, but these sticks fold up so are good for the backpack.
