    Is it cheaper to keep'er?

I've got an older Martin I've been shooting for a bout 2 1/2 years that is going to need a re-string, new sight, and then re-tune been having issues with it holding a tune for some reason (May be newish shooter errors) I'm wondering if a newer/used bow or a new not so expensive model bow (Mission, Bear, or Bowtech/diamond) may be a better alternative?

    Thanks a lot Q

If you're going to put more than half the value of a new bow, back into it, it's not worth keeping unless it has some kind of sentimental value, IMO.

No this was a gun shop pick-up when I first started shooting again. Hopefully Friday Triple Edge won't be packed and I can get to sling a few arrows down range and see if its worth the jump to a newer "better" bow. Thank You

Yes, I would imagine it would be cheaper to keep the one you have. New strings and a new tune isn't going to cost you nearly as much as getting a new bow... which *might* call for new arrows, etc.

Now... if you know deep down that you are going to give in to the desire to get a new bow soon after restringing, etc, and you never go back to your old bow afterwards... then yeah, it is cheaper in the long run to just go to the new bow now.

I'd just get a new one. You can get a really nice bow now for around $500....check out the Hoyt Charger and the Mission Ballistic.

I'm shooting CE Maxima Hunter 350's cut at 28.5" right now that should leave some room to move up on faster IBO speeds @ around 60lbs before needing to upgrade arrows. Don't you think?

How old is the bow? Might be a good idea to go on Ebay and see what they are selling at by using the advanced search feature and include sold items. If it is a $200 dollar bow in todays market it would be a tough call to spend $140 to fix it up.

60D I have no clue on the exact age somewhere around 2004. It's a Martin Tracer and looks like they're going for 150-200 on the interwebs. I'll run my options by the bow shop guys and get their opinion on it.

Well they got me.... I got my old bow tuned up and shooting good and they had a Ballistic there I decided to shoot it. A rigging later I had the new bow shooting awesome and ready to go. Even sold my old bow to a guy shooting in the lane next to me hopefully the wife won't be too mad now

There ya go. My problem has always been turning loose of the old bow. I've sold some as I only have three compounds now. Really need to sell one of them.

Enjoying the heck out of it learning it's likes and dislikes. Never had a new bow does it take a while for the peep to "set"? Seems like I'm having to turn it every other shot .

maybe the first few shots, shouldn't have to turn it every time once the string gets stretched out

It's getting better, but still having to pre -load the peep. Probably right at 100 -150 shots on it now. Still probably the smoothest bow I've drawn (in my price range)
