    Gimme Some Feedback Please!

We are in the process of setting up a "Bow Season Warm Up" 3D shoot in September. At Hilltop Lakes near Madisonville/Normangee.

Here is the very preliminary plan. "Hunting Rigs" only. (we realize that is a very subjective term) Have a Kids, Women, Men, and Traditional Class. $20 entry (5 for kids) and pay-back 100% of the entry fees in each class.

Here is where I would really like some feedback... We are thinking of shooting 10 targets "unknown" with a 35 yd max in the men and women and 20-25 max in the kids and traditional. THEN shooting 10 targets KNOWN yardage (via your rangefinder) with a longer (60?) max distance. What are your thoughts?

We want this to be a FUN shoot with some incentive for the more serious shooters... but the main focus on FUN! What would YOU like to see in a shoot? Tell me what YOU wish someone would do at a tournament? We aint skeer'd to try most anything.

We're planning on BBQ and drinks.... Hilltop Lakes has a hotel on site, campground..... Help me make it fun and unique!

For a hunting rig 60 yards will be too far. Most people do not have a 60 yard pin in a hunting setup or at least I don't

Watching this one. Toby, is a great guy and I am sure this is going to be a fun and challenging shoot!
Maybe some pop up blind shots?

We have several 1/2 known and 1/2 unknown ASA classes. The shooters enjoy this format.

I think I would limit my longer shots to 40-45. Then you could possibly have a bonus shot 50 to 60 that would count double points.

            Sounds like a fun shoot.

              Toby,
The 60 may cause problems for some if you want hunting rigs only. No Binoculars is something we have tried and it was fun. It seems to take a little of the seriousness out of it, although it does sound like you are shooting for money...
You could also make it a blind draw team event.
I have shot in an event that was "hunting rigs only" u may need to be very detailed about what a hunting rig is.

Good stuff!.... I like the draw team idea. ..... And the "Hail Mary" bonus shot.

We used to have a shoot where you didn't know what the scoring was until you get down to the target..... 10=5..... Closest to the eye is a 5 pt bonus.... Made it where absolutely anyone could win..... Whatcha think?

How about on several targets having an option to take a long "bonus shot" where an 8 or 10 counts double BUT a wound or "5" is a zero.... If you take the gamble, you better make it count....

60yds would be pushing for most hunting rigs. No bino's would be alright. I do like the idea of haveing some pop-up blinds to shoot out of.

Hmmm.... I like the pop-up blind idea.. An actual blind would probably cause a back up. Maybe a chair with something just in front of the stake that you would have to shoot over/around... Cool stuff!

                      Keep 'em coming!

Toby, I like all the ideas.
When I use to shoot down at salt grass many moons ago, they always had some long shots. About 60 yards give or take 5.

Mostly the long shots were elk, mule deer, caribou or something you would take longer shots in the field.

Also, I think it's good for hunters to practice longer shots for follow up shots on wounded animals. First shots don't always go as planned.

Toby, this is way out there, but we are planning to have a night shoot at Tejas that is going to be a bunch of fun. You will use flashlights but there are all sorts of things you can do with the animals for this type of shoot.
