    spine vs. grain weight

Just some thoughts from everyone. I was sorting POR shafts last night and got to wondering what everyone else does or where they place importance. Are you more concerned with all shafts being the same spine or the same weight. I usually sort by 1# variance on spine and 2-4 grain weight difference. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks Durk.

As close as I can get them on both counts. Generally within 3# spine and 8 grains in weight will do it for me. I also check the balance point of each shaft....I like them within 1/8" of each other.

Cool. Haven't checked naked shafts for balance point. Great idea. always checked FOC when adding the points. Thanks

All you guys know what I do with those cedar shafts!

If you are getting within 1# on spine and 2-4gr on weight you are as close as one could expect you couldd get.

I know Bisch, heard you like a little fire starter. I still like shooting woodies. Maybe that's one of the reasons I shoot poorly at times. DG

my personal arrows ar 57/58 spine and 600 to 605 grains in weight
and this just about goes with the arrows we make and sell i like to keep them in the 3 pound spine range and 10 grains in weight.

industry standard is 5 pounds spine and 20 grains in weight.

I have yet to meet the man (or woman) that is a good enough shot to realize that tight of variance in wood arrows. I certainly can't and I tend to be a pretty fair shot in my own right. I always just tried to stay within the 5 lb spine range and the +/- 10 grain scale. In as many years as I have shot trad I have never been able to shoot an arrow and say "awe crud that one weighed 5 grains less than the others." Just my .02 cents worth.

I'm with Mike and rubydog, within 5# in spine and 10 gr. in weight
I don't really mind the weight being more than 10 gr. even to 30 or 40 but I want my spine close for all shafts.

Where do you guys purchase shafts from?

Spine is more critical than weight. All my woods are within #4 's on spine and 7 gr on weight. Wyatt makes some good ones.

I buy all my shafts from 3-rivers. Just went through 100 shafts and had a matched dozen 1 grain weight variance and 1# spine difference. Thanks for all the input everyone. DG
